FIRST TIV CLASSIC MOVIE TAVERSHIMA TO BE ON PUBLIC VIEW FEBRUARY 3RD IN MAKURDI BENUE STATE, by SuNNY GREEN ITODO

With the released of Tavershima(a Tiv classic movie it is now clear-crystal that Benue is set to break the jinx as the first state from North Central Nigeria to make a make in the indigenous film category of the Nigerian motion industry globally known as Nollywood. The potential award winning movie have not just only placed Benue State on the country's film map but have also made Benue homegrown stars. The cast is a combination of Nigerian Nollywood  actors and popular Tivwood actors which have celebrated Benueborn actor-cum-producer Maxwell A petaz Jr in the lead role. The movie was directed by Idomaborn award winning Nollywood/Ghollywood Director Sunny Okwori.

The movie

Tavershima is a story of cultural celebration, identity and sheer determination. It compels attention to the rich cultural heritage of the Tiv people of North-Central Nigeria - their way of life and cultural values, their cultural performances and the potentials for cultural tourism as found amongst them. All of these, wrapped in one parcel, unfold in a story of love.

The eponymous character, Tavershima, is beguiled into returning to his ancestral home from the United States. Having lived all his life in the US from age 4, and growing into some kind of a rogue, now 33, Tavershima resists every move to bring him home until his mother lies to him that his father is dead. Unknown to him, the supposedly dead king invites his clansmen and chiefs to a feast to welcome his lost son. Tavershima arrives to a surprise; his father is alive. Realising that he's been tricked, he goes wild, making fun of his father's chiefs in council, poking at them and jeering at their tribal marks and all. he last straw breaking the Carmel's back is when he unknowingly spanks his father's youngest wife on the buttocks. Furious at the abominable act, the father bans Tavershima to their remote village where he will be detached completely from urban comforts.

While in the village, Tavershima indeed learns the "strange ways" of his people and most importantly finds love in Sewuese. It is Sewuese who completes the task of rubbing in the cultural values which Tavershima must learn, while also giving him a reason not to remember the US anymore. He returns to his father, the King, with his new found love and they marry.

Beyond entertaining viewers, the story attempts to teach Tiv cultural values, their rich cultural heritage and captivating traditional performances while at the same time showcasing the tourism potentials amongst the Tiv.
